In the world of Kill la Kill, kamui are outfits made entirely of Life Fibers. Senketsu is a talking sailor uniform that Ryuko finds hidden under the floorboards of her house. Initially, it absorbs a large amount of her blood and only allows her to act for a limited time. However, it is soon able to fully synchronize with Ryuko as she gets over her embarrassment of wearing such a skimpy outfit. Whenever Ryuko uses the Scissor Blade to cut a Goku Uniform, Senketsu absorbs its Life Fibers. Mikisugi later reveals that Issei Matoi designed Senketsu from Ryuko's DNA to enable her to fight against the propagators of the Life Fibers. It was only after the revelation of Ryuko's hybrid nature that Senketsu is revealed to be partially human. Satsuki Kiryuin dons the Kiryuin Family's kamui Junketsu and manages to take command of it through force of will, allowing her to use it for extended battles without the same short time limit that Ryuko had early on with Senketsu.

Suddenly, the fabric of Ryuko's own skirt tore away, not from damage, but from sheer power. The red threads reformed into sleek, jagged armor plates that hugged her limbs like a second skin. Her eyes narrowed as the world seemed to slow down; she had reached the threshold. With a roar that shook the courtyard, she launched forward, leaving a trail of crimson fire in her wake.
