Lore & Background

In Kill la Kill the Game: IF, Ira Gamagoori is a playable character with a distinct combat system. His unique mechanic involves a "damage gauge" that charges when he takes damage while in a special form. Switching forms replaces his long-range attack. Players can intentionally charge the damage gauge by having Gamagoori whip himself, sacrificing hit points to increase the damage he deals. This reflects his character's willingness to endure punishment for greater power. The game's story mode follows a "What if?" scenario branching from the 8th episode of the anime, with Satsuki Kiryuin as the protagonist in the first chapter and Ryuko Matoi in the second. Gamagoori appears as part of the eight-character base roster, which also includes Ryuko Matoi, Satsuki Kiryuin, Nonon Jakuzure, Ira Gamagoori, Houka Inumuta, Uzu Sanageyama, Nui Harime, and Ragyo Kiryuin.

In Their Own Story

In the game's story mode, Gamagoori participates in various battle types, including 1v1 duels, three-way battles, and one vs. many brawls against the Cover enemy type. His unique damage gauge mechanic allows him to absorb punishment and retaliate with increased force, making him a durable frontline fighter. The story mode contains a variety of battle types, and players must progress through the first few chapters to unlock other modes. Gamagoori's fighting style is completely unique, as each of the eight playable characters have a completely unique fighting style determined by their respective implementations of the core move set (short/long-range attacks, break, special).

Reader's Guide

To play Ira Gamagoori effectively in Kill la Kill the Game: IF, focus on his unique damage gauge mechanic. When in his special form, taking damage charges the gauge, which increases damage dealt. You can intentionally charge the gauge by whipping himself, sacrificing hit points for greater damage. This makes him a high-risk, high-reward character who thrives on absorbing punishment. His long-range attack is replaced when switching forms, so adapt your strategy accordingly. The game's combat centers around short-range attacks, long-range attacks, and guard break attacks, supplemented by movement options and special attacks. Gamagoori's special attacks are high damage moves which require charging a special gauge through dealing/taking damage, and using a special attack will cause a short cut scene to play with an animation of the character performing the special move.
